Dr. Bateman has taught chemistry at HSU since the fall of 2009. He is a native of Arkansas, and graduated from Delight High School. He graduated from Henderson State in 2003 with a B.S. in Chemistry, and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas in 2009. Dr. Bateman is married to Marsha Bateman, and they have five children, and three grand children between them. The family includes three dogs, two cats, and a leopard gecko.

Dr. Bateman is a synthetic chemist, and his research involves synthesis of biologically active natural products. He is also involved in synthesis of libraries of simple compounds derived from known bioactive molecules.
