Students Collect Truckload of Trash at the DeGray Lake Cleanup

Each year students from the Honors College volunteer their time to participate in the annual Degray Lake Cleanup, part of the Great Arkansas Cleanup. The Honors College, as well as students involved in other organizations on campus, faculty members, and members of the community, spend a Saturday morning in September picking up trash to help preserve the beauty of DeGray Lake State Park.

Each group works tirelessly to clean their section of the shoreline, ensuring that no section is left unchecked. Our students, when finished, make sure to snap a celebratory photo with the many bags of trash, and sometimes unique discarded objects, they have collected before hauling it away. The event concludes with a community picnic by the lakeside.
